PETER ZIMMERMANN'S ARTISTIC METHODOLOGY EMBODIES POST-DIGITAL AESTHETICS, ENGAGING WITH EMERGENT TECHNOLOGIES TO REINVENT THE TRADITIONAL MEDIUM OF PAINTING IN HIS OWN TERMS. ZIMMERMANN REFLECTS ON HOW OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD IS INFORMED BY IMAGES ON SCREENS AND USES IMAGE SOFTWARE TECHNIQUES TO MANIPULATE PERSONAL OR ANONYMOUS IMAGES FROM HIS VISUAL ARCHIVE. HIS PROCESS RESULTS IN NEW SHAPES, ABSTRACT FORMS THAT PLAY WITH THE VIEWER'S PERCEPTION OF SPACE AND TIME. THE PAINTINGS DEPEND ON A SIMILAR PROCESS IN THE CREATION OF THEIR FORMAL COMPOSITIONS BUT REQUIRE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS. ZIMMERMANN'S METHOD OF ABSTRACTION IS A PURE FUNCTION OF THE SOFTWARE, BUT THE DEGREE OF ABSTRACTION AND IMAGE SELECTION ARE THE ARTIST'S OWN CAREFUL DECISIONS. THE EXHIBITION OFFERS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE THE ARTIST'S PROCESS AND TO ENGAGE WITH HIS POST-DIGITAL AESTHETICS IN A SPATIAL CONTEXT.

MEDIA SHOUT BELONGS TO KARAM’S SHOUT & SILENCE SERIES; ORGANIC FORMS WITH A HUMAN PRESENCE CARRYING EMOTIONS REPRESENTED IN ABSTRACT FORM. SHOUT & SILENCE ARE ACTS, BUT ALSO STATES OF MIND. MEDIA SHOUT HAS THE RELAXED, ARMCHAIR POSTURE OF THOSE SEEKING TO SHAPE HOW WE SEE THE WORLD.

In this painting, “Eruption” is represented literally as a volcano eruption seen from above. Volcanoes are unpredictable, and like everything in this cosmos including Earth, are constantly in movement and keep changing and transforming over the years. Nature, oceans, mountains, people, every single living creature and nonliving element can’t remain the same. On Earth, the acceleration is due to human being actions: climate change, and industrial and technological evolution which leads to landscapes modifications such as deforestation and glaciers melting, etc… We should accept and live with our era, undergoing the effects of our accomplishments, including the overwhelming media and pieces of information that each one of us is using every day. The eruption is everywhere and at every moment: birth is an eruption, and pollution is a constant eruption, but as an artist who is passionate about nature and Earth, I couldn’t but think of the majestic eruption of a volcano, encompassing all other eruptions, seen from above, to allow me to feel and make people feel the whole effect of the eruption while being detached from it.

The Displaced Hive is an altarpiece of 25 pieces carved in wood and stamped on paper that I started during a threemonth stay in Weimar (Germany) in the summer of 2021. This project deals with the aspirational need of man in his search for new ends and its overcrowding, and presents three of the ways in which this overcrowding occurs today; the mass tourism of climbers on Mount Everest, which in 2019 came to form a traffic jam at the summit, as Subin Takuri immortalized in his photographs; the new space race between private companies of great tycoons, transporting tourists to outer space for the first time in history, and; the waves of immigrants, who risk their lives trying to reach borders that are as desirable as they are inaccessible. The chosen form, as an altarpiece of narrative scenes, provides a link with other traditional human escape routes through religion and allows us to develop a mythological iconography around the three chosen themes.

WITHIN THE EVER-EVOLVING LANDSCAPE OF CONTEMPORARY DISCOURSE, A PROFOUND CONCEPT HAS EMERGED THAT ENCAPSULATES THE IDEA OF BREAKING FREE FROM THE CONFINES OF PHYSICAL BORDERS. IT SUGGESTS THAT IN TODAY'S INTERCONNECTED WORLD, SYSTEMS FUNCTION UNDER A NETWORK OF RELATIONSHIPS, TRANSCENDING GEOGRAPHICAL BOUNDARIES AND FOSTERING A SENSE OF UNIVERSALITY. THIS FASCINATING PHENOMENON HAS BEEN DUBBED THE "EXPLOSION TOWARDS ISOLATION FROM GEOGRAPHIC BOUNDARIES ENGINES." THIS CONCEPT IS DEEPLY ROOTED IN THE INTERDEPENDENT NATURE OF COMPLEX SYSTEMS THAT RELY ON INTRICATE RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THEIR STRUCTURAL FRAMEWORKS. FOR EXAMPLE, CONSIDER THE GLOBAL ECONOMY, WHERE TRADE AND FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS TAKE PLACE ON A MASSIVE SCALE, TRANSCENDING NATIONAL BORDERS AND BRINGING NATIONS AND CULTURES TOGETHER. SIMILARLY, IN THE REALM OF ART, WE SEE A GROWING TREND OF ARTISTS WORKING COLLABORATIVELY ACROSS BORDERS, USING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES TO OVERCOME GEOGRAPHIC DISTANCES AND CREATE SOMETHING NEW AND UNIQUE.

The Levant region, particularly Lebanon since I live and work here, is currently beset by plenty of issues that have left the inhabitants with precious little time to explore and comprehend the state of affairs around them. Consequently, their perspectives have become inverted, with the world appearing to them in a manner that is not entirely comparable with reality. Tragically, the people In Lebanon remain ignorant of this fact, as they are still reeling from the traumatic events of the past such as the devastating explosion at the Beirut Port, the economic collapse, and the failure to appoint government representatives that would be more conducive to the welfare of the population.

The poetic sensation that emanates from the works of Nicolas Panayotou arises from his kaleidoscopic spaces, from planets in orbit which, far from being fixed, favor a dynamic constantly in eruption. His work is dedicated to a constantly renewed reflection on the capacity of the human brain to apprehend the notions of space and time and be transported by the images each time the gaze lands on it.
