Salah Saouli

Salah Saouli’s work consists of a pandemonium of interwoven elements, with an open system of sometimes clear and sometimes blurry images, text, photographs, city maps, and drawings. The starting point of his work is memory – both individual experiences and collective images, and in particular the effects of war on people and cities. Within the composition, devastations are covered by other layers; lines of poetry appear on photographs and facades, giving voice to a narrative that official histories are unable to tell.
