Macarena Ruiz-Tagle

Macarena Ruiz-Tagle (1981, Santiago de Chile) lives and works in Berlin and Santiago de Chile. Her work in painting, sculpture and installation is based on the fusion between the human body and optical phenomena. Fascinated by light as a material presence, which is a primordial element confined in the world revealing the surface and dimesiones of space, the work of Macarena starts from her interest in the possibilities and limitations of the human eye, the subtle subjective experience of the body on spatial, color and light perception.

 

Her work has been exhibited internationally at: Hamburger Bahnhof Museum, Neue Nationalgalerie and Dittrich und Schlechtriem Galerie in Berlin, Bauhaus Foundation Dessau, Germany; 13th Venice Biennial of Architecture, Italy; CCCB Contemporary Culture Center in Barcelona, Spain; Ionion Center for the Arts & Culture in Kefalonia, Greece; National Museum of Fine Arts MNBA, Museum of Contemporary Art MAC,Museum of Visual Arts MAVI, Patricia Ready and Gabriela Mistral Galleries in Santiago, Chile.

 

Some of the awards and scholarships she has received: Fondart years 2015 and 2018 from the Ministry of Arts and Culture Chile, DAAD German Academic Exchange Service, Academic Excelence Prize from Concordia University, Preis Jaqueline Diffring Foundation for the Exhibition Festival of Future Nows and the Contemporary Art Contest of Gabriela Mistral Gallery Santiago Chile.

 

Macarena has been a participant at the Institut für Raumexperimente (Institute for Spatial Experiments), a five years program of an experimental art school choreographed and directed by Olafur Eliasson in collaboration with Universität der Künste Berlin (University of the Arts) and Studio Olafur Eliasson Berlin. Macarena holds a MFA in Sculpture from Concordia University and a BFA from Universidad Católica de Chile. She is represented by Patricia Ready Gallery in Santiago. Among the Artist in Residence she has participated at Casa Poli in Coliumo, Chile and a Master Class at the Ionion Center for the Arts, Kefalonia Island, Greece in collaboration with Triangular Project Collective by artists Florine Leoni (Switzerland), Sandra Volny (France) and Macarena Ruiz-Tagle (Chile).
