Abel Hartooni

Abel Hartooni, is an Iranian-Armenian visual artist, currently living and studying in Tehran, Iran. Accompanied by a musical background from his early childhood, he attended to Tehran school of fine arts in 2014 and graduated there in 2016. He is currently completing his bachelor’s degree at Soore university of arts in Tehran.

His practice is mainly focused on painting but he refuses to unify his practice into a single, homogenised method or a subject matter for now. His works merges both representational and abstract elements into a single causal milieu where he uses details from art history of different margins, photos, collages, 3D designs and his own imagination as references to create them.

His works tend to depict situations in which he tries to embody his own relationship with the environment around him, bodies of others, texts (visual and literal) and his own living experience and agency through signs and indexes of color. His works have been exhibited in open studio events and group exhibitions inside Iran. In his latest group exhibition at Soo contemporary in Tehran, he expanded his painting practice into a spatial quality and made an installation titled “The re-embodiment of the fragments dispersed, after Toros Roslin”
