Born in Lebanon in 1970, Mansour El Habre is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, printmaking and new media. He holds a BFA from the Lebanese University and an MFA from the University of Balamand. He is an instructor at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA).
In addition to exhibiting on a regular basis in some of Lebanon’s foremost art spaces, El Habre has been featured in galleries and festivals across the Gulf, Europe and North America. He has been represented, since 1993, by Galerie Janine Rubeiz where he has held solo and group exhibitions: “Scènes de vie” and “Football” (2002), “Coup d’œil : Passé et Présent I” (2005), “Fiction” (2008-2009), “Artistes Libanais” Galerie Janine Rubeiz & Dar Al Founoun, “Lignes et Couleurs” (2008), “Republicafé” (2012), “Clin d’œil” (2014), “Home Life” (2015), “. In 2010, he participated in the exhibition “Convergence - New Art from Lebanon”, at the Katzen Art Center at the American University in Washington DC. His work has been showcased with Galerie Janine Rubeiz at several international art fairs like Art Dubai, Art Abu Dhabi and Beirut Art Fair.
Mansour El Habre’s paintings and works on paper do not answer the question but address the condition. His works are characterized by the strong themes, the changeable human figures and the unusual geometric shapes highlighted by a unified bright colour. The human image in his paintings shrinks into a series of sharp lines and free-flowing figures. All of this leads to an exciting composition, in which people appear in a perpetual movement, escaping from the painting.
